Old time vintage radio commercials --- Listen to Yesterday.

I've long had a keen interest in both old time radio programming and old vintage radio commercials. I have quite a collection of both and I'm sharing a few with you here on this page.

OTR (Old Time Radio) and vintage commercials give us a vivid glimpse of our history and our culture.

I love old time radio and I love to listen to the old vintage radio commercial. The difference in those of yesteryear and today is unbelievable. Some of them are quite good. Others seem odd with the passage of time. But they're a part of our history --- especially those of us in advertising. I hope you enjoy them.

I'll be adding more vintage radio commercials. So check back often.

NOTICE: The old commercials, shows and scripts on this page are either out of copyright because of their age or they never had a copyright. To the best of my knowledge they are now in the public domain and anyone can download them and use them. I do not own the copyright to any of the old time radio content on this page.

ATTN: DRAGNET LOVERS. Listen to the first and final radio episodes of Dragnet.

Listen to Amos 'n' Andy

Amos 'n' Andy

Title: Marriage Proposal Mix-up
Date: 17th November 1944

By 1937 more than three-quarters of American homes had at least one radio--- they could experience at the same time Amos 'n' Andy at NBC. AT&T noted that phone calls dropped 50 percent during the broadcast, and water departments found that pressure decreased just after the show.

Pepsodent, one of the sponsors of the show, saw its fortunes soar because of their sponsorship of the popular show.

Pepsodent tooth paste made a fortune advertising on radio. Here is one of their famous radio commercials.

This is a Wings Cigarette Spot from the forties. I'm not sure who wrote it or what agency did it.

This is a Studebaker Lark spot from 1960.

This is a prize! The very FIRST known commercial aired on radio. It was aired in 1922 on WEAF in New York.

This is a Kolynos Tooth Paste spot from 1944.

This is one of my favorites. It's Lifeboy soap, called "Health Soap." I remember my dad used it. This spot is from 1949.

This is a vintage spot for Blue Coal, which was very popular in the twenties and thirties.

Below is a spot for Carters Little Liver Pills. Carters Little Liver Pills was the sponsor for the old radio show called "Inner Sanctum" in the 1940s. This classic radio commercial says that they can help you with digestion problems. These and Doan's Pills were supposed to cure just about anything.

Other Old Time Radio Broadcasts and Scripts

Here is the original radio script from Captain Midnight episode 167 October 17, 1939. The sponsor was The Skelly Oil Company.

Old Amos and Andy radio script. From Dec. 27th 1930.

Download Fibber McGee and Molley. This episode is called Masquerade Party and was aired November 29, 1938.

From April 16, 1935 to September 6, 1959 one of the best-known addresses in the USA was the home of Fibber McGee and Molly . . . 79 Wistful Vista in a midwestern city where this extremely popular show took place. Fibber was just that - a fibber, a braggart, a man who stretched his stories and ideas to the limit, often to the dismay of his patient spouse Molly.

McGee took telling tall tales to a fine art. His wild ideas and schemes were the basis for the show which usually took place in the living room at their home. They didn't enjoy quiet evenings alone because there was always a steady stream of visitors, each a character in their own way added to the confusion and hilarity of the situation.

The sponsor of the show was The Johnson Wax Company of Racine, Wisconsin. This is an MP3 file and is 6.72 MB.

World War Two Memories

Some important radio historical records of World War Two. These are priceless in that they provide an accurate historical record of the events leading up to World War Two. You will hear President Roosevelt in perhaps his finest hours. One may debate his wisdom and his motivation. But no one can debate his oratory ability.
